The Abbey of the Roses has 12 bedrooms tastefully decorated in a style befitting the building and its history. Each has its own special ambiance and all rooms have lovely views of Warwick and the surrounding country side.Abbey of the Roses (formerly Our Sisters of Mercy Convent – Our Lady of Assumption) was built in 1893 from local Sandstone, costing approximately 12,000 pounds and was funded by the people of Warwick through an Art Union. The Convent catered for the education of young Catholic women for nearly a century. With the advent of school transport systems in the 1960s, the need for boarding accommodation declined. The last of the school’s boarders left in 1972. Sisters in residence also declined and in 1987 the Order of the Sisters of Mercy sold the property.Our Lady of Assumption College was purchased by Sophia College Trust in 1989 and was renamed Sophia College. The Trust provided tertiary education until December 1993, when it was forced to close.
