Recently got my hard drive replaced after Jim initially laughed that I'd update my PC to Windows 10 I was hesitant but when I got to the store he was peronable, friendship and honest with me the whole way through the process. I asked friends advice on repairing it and they said prove was competitive and I felt very reassured by Jim. He was extremely honest putting out damage to the PC that was pre-existing that he'd not noticed on taking the laptop worried he'd done it, could have ignored it but this is a testimony to the character and honesty of this business. Will recommend to everyone!! Now if only he'd be able to help my mum understand text messaging via the phone he'd have my business for life!!
From good reviews I tried this place out. I know a fair bit about fixing computers and was looking to test if I had a faulty battery or a faulty transformer. I called and explained this and gave the model and make and he said he could test them and to bring it in, it would only take 10 minutes. After going in, I found the guy to be rude and condescending to the customer before me and then also to me. It was also possible for him to test either of these, but a magical number of $250 to fix a startup warning was determined. Do I want to book it in?
I asked if that was just a flat CMOS battery due to the battery issue, and he agreed but said they can be a lot of work, before he had even turned the laptop over to look. I can say that the CMOS battery for my laptop is about $5 and it would take about 10 minutes for me to change as it's located on the rear panel of ...read more
Hi Tom. Sorry that you felt 'intimidated'. Definitely we are not in the habit of normally 'scaring' our valued customers :) I do actually recall this conversation, but quite differently from the way you represent it here. I remember that you had a lot of "theories" about what was wrong with your laptop, and when I tried to go through the various pricing options, you became irritable, insisting that I should have been able to do things that were neither practical or relevant to the problem you were presenting with. I always try to be honest, and up-front with my customers, as I was with you. I am sorry you did not appreciate this. I take note that you were unhappy and will try to do better in future.
Yes, that is a very different experience than mine. My "theories" where following a conversation with the Authorised Adelaide Dell Repairer who suggested to initially test the battery and the transformer, as these would be the cheapest to resolve and the easiest to test. This approach is certainly backed up by research on the internet. This we discussed on the phone, along with the make and model, which you said you could test quickly at the counter, which could be if as I assumed, you had spare parts for these. And no, I didn't find you "scary", and no I was not irritated, perhaps a little disappointed at wasting a trip in, and definitely a little surprised at your cost to change a CMOS battery. No-one will win this discussion of course, but, as mentioned earlier, I'd just suggest people bear my experience in mind.
I had a CMOS battery replacement done there before christmas. Cost me $44 for the labour and there was no charge for the battery. Ive been dealing with Jim for years (he's the only repairer I use for our business machines) and have never found the charges to be anything other than reasonable.
