"Self Catering" Mallacoota is one of Australia's best kept secrets - tucked away in the Croajingalong National Park it sits comfortably alongside some of the most beautiful coastline in Australia.Every beach is beautiful. In summer the patrolled beach at Bastion Point is a good choice for safe swimming. If you like the" river meets the sea" type of beach, Betka is our pick and then if you keep going down the same road you will come to Secret Beach with its lovely cave.Chillaxing is a combination of "chilling out and relaxing" which is what we like to do most. Hanging about in the hammock with a good book is hard to beat and then when hunger strikes I'm happy to take a slow bike ride into town or jump in the car and grab a bite at one of our local cafe's or if its dinner take a dusk drive to the golf club and pass the kanga's on the golf course - you can get up real close. The pub and Lucy's all offer good choices for dinner.What better way to get around than a walk into town along the inlet or jump in the car and drive to Double Creek (gorgeous at dusk when the ducks land on top lake) or if you are feeling more energetic climb to Genoa Peak and take in the views - gorgeous. Take a becah walk on Bastion Point beach until you get to the mouth of the inlet. Throw down a picnic rug lie back and take in the views across the inlet - magic !
Fishermen we are not ! But we have it on good authority that Mallacoota is a top spot for Brim and Flathead. If you are after the abalone we suggest a meal of these morsels at Lucy's in town.
Hiring a kayak and exploring the inlet is a great way to take in the views and it doesn't hurt to get a little wet every now and then.
