Stumbled upon this gem of a place while staying at the backpackers nearby- what luck as found fantastic food and the nicest people I have come across in a very long time. I've tried other African restaurants in Sydney and overseas and would say that Axum had the best food I've tasted so far. Prices were very reasonable (they should probably ask for more) and the range of dishes was really good. Another backpacker came with me and she was a vegetarian and also gave the place her stamp of approval. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone whoi wants good food and a different cultural experience.
Wow- great food and a lovely atmosphere! We had a meat platter that was so tasty and spicy- and filled two of us up for less than $30 which we thought was fantastic value. Have been a few times now and have enjoyed the food and the whole feel of the place each time. Friday nights are quite special with the girls in traditional clothes doing Ethiopian dancing - and another woman in traditional dress did a coffee ceremony which apparently is a big part of their culture- very interesting! The people there make us feel really welcome and it is so good to see people getting a business like this going- well worth supporting.
