Aki's Indian Restaurant
Aki's Indian Restaurant
Atop the wharf of flash restaurants is upmarket Indian, Aki’s. Wooden Maharajas stand in proud welcome to this heritage space, adorned with touches of exotic
opulence – antique wood, and silver and black wallpaper. Settle into a leather chair and start with light-as-air papadums and a lychee-licious cocktail. Don’t miss the crab on noodle hoppers, a Sri Lankan specialty, and its outrageous butter drizzle. Follow up with juicy tandoori king fish and tangy mint sauce and toast your decadence with a swirl of a great pinot noir.
Located on Cowper Wharf, Aki's isn't your everyday Indian restaurant, but nor should it be only relegated to special occasion dining.
With its picture perfect location, exciting menu and welcoming and professional service, a meal at Aki's is like no other. Before placing our order we were treated to a complimentary starter of skewered pepper chicken with mint sauce. This was a tantalising introduction to the wonderful meal ahead.
Our Indian feast comprised pappadums, biriyani, saffron scallops, slow cooked lamb, Aki's butter chicken and cheese kulcha.
We went here last week for dinner. The staff serving us at our table (outside) was poor beyond belief and ruined the night. Examples include:
- Reaching across us mid conversation to pour the wine
- Forgetting to order us the dips with the poppadoms so we had to eat just dry poppadoms
- Dribbling the wine and water across the table on 4 occasions and the last straw came when dribbled the water across my dinner plate and over my food!!!
Appeared to be in charge of the outside tables so I went inside and advised a staff inside that this experience was not acceptable..was helpful but I really don't know what was wrong with the staff outside, really didn't care.
The food may be great but for the price you pay I'd expect much better service..I won't be going back
This is a great restaurant, and it gets busy very quickly. For a nice, relaxed meal, show up earlier in the night when it is quieter, and you will be able to relax over your meal. When it is busy, it is very noisy so it is hard to hold a conversation. Great place to go with a group, not so good for a romantic dinner for two. The food is delicious and fresh, and definitely worth the slightly higher prices that are set at some other Indian restaurants.
