Aldi is what it is...though I did read their business model has changed hence the more upmarket appearance of the stores, and the ditching of the packing pallets ( thank heavens for that)! The fridge section is bright and easy to find things ( so many cheeses, excellent prices)... with my fave being their own brand of Persian feta...amazing.
It can still be a bun fight when they do the specials eg ski clothes, so arrive early! There's also a decent amount of alcohol sold here and i recently got a champagne ( yeah the real thing from France so I can use that terminology ) and I've gotta say it was delicious and only cost around $20. When I used to work at North Sydney, I frequented Aldi very often, and it never changed the entire time I was there. So imagine my surprise that when I visited this supermarket last month they have done some makeover and make it a better place to shop.
Whilst the space remains the same and the middle and back areas appear to not change, the front checkout area has been re-arranged and the employees room that used to be at the front is now gone and replaced with a fresh bakery section as well as a section in the corner that sells alcoholic drinks just before the checkout.
The bakery items were baked on the spot, and the prices for the bakery items were very reasonable too. I brought the croissant and it was quite decent and crispy. It certainly puts a little bit of a pressure to many other bakery shops around.
Massive queues here every Saturday and Sunday morning as well as the fact that it's always busy suggest Aldi are doing something right. I do wish it was open earlier that 08:30 on weekdays.
A great place to do some grocery shopping before going home. I would say prices are a little higher than my local supermarkets, but it can be considering the location. If you haven't got lunch for work and the time to queue, enough variety to give you a filling lunch and something to take home.
Supermarket in great location, slightly overpriced but okay for North Sydney.
