In June 2018 I suffered a ruptured Aorta. Ambulance team rushed me Frankston Hosptial where assessment determined I needed to be operated on at the Alfred. An hour later I was wheeled into surgery.
During some days in ICU I contacted sepsis requiring further surgery, copped a dose of pneumonia and finally managed a stroke and kidney failure.
In the three months in the Alfred I could not fault the care and attention I received as they nursed back health (or close to it).
I would not be alive today without the constant care of the Alfred staff.
They represent to best aspects of our medical system in Australia.
Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who attended to me - too many to name.
Terrific emergency staff. Waiting time was reasonable (a little over an hour-on a weekday and in the afternoon). Doctors and nurses were lovely and patient. They made a point of explaining everything even though they clearly were incredibly busy. Parking is an issue though.
The Alfred Hospital has excellent emergency facilities and an utterly fantastic intensive care unit (ICU/Critical care) However, the wait time to see someone in casualty can exceed five hours if you go on a busy night. The rooms are pretty dull and many wards really need refurbishing. The food is great in the downstairs cafetaria but patient food is pretty ordinary. The Alfred offers some great services to people going home post surgery as well. Parking is a nightmare.
