This a truly wonderful restaurant, great food and lovely people.
Whenever we are going past, we live half way between Sydney and Melbourne on the coast, we call in for a meal. Amazing to find such a good quality restaurant out of the major cities. Last time we went on 2 consecutive evenings....
NEVER AGAIN - the WORST place to eat. Chose scallops from their specials board but sold out and only 2 people in the restaurant - so how does that work. Then ordered a medium-rare steak, with mushroom sauce. Steak turned up well done, vegies raw (not even warm), sauce very bland. Partner ordered seafood marinara, and they had no scallops so said they would add extra prawns, however in total dish he found 4 prawns and not much else! Complained, neither of us ate our meals and not a hint of a discount, or offer of a free wine or anything. NEVER NEVER AGAIN - GO ANYWHERE ELSE!
We went to Almas restaurant over the long weekend just gone. It was busy but the staff stayed on top of things, delivered great service and a great cup of coffee! We loved the atmosphere so we booked in for dinner and were not disappointed. We had oysters kilpatrick to share and then I had a reef and beef that was cooked to perfection. The only complaint is i couldn't fit in dessert!
This has to be the worst restaurant in Gippsland...NEVER I repeat never go to Alma's in Paynesville...Prawns straight from a frozen bag, soggy chips, on a bed of plain rice with no (definitely NO) sauce. G's sauce flour and water, steak ok (there's a positive) with burnt soggy wedges UNDER the steak. Entree was appalling...high sugar content with soggy salt & pepper calimari, half a pack of water crackers, pumpkin, sweet gerkin, philly chilli, dip, capers and not very fresh smoked salmon. Staff apologetic and begged them to charge us half...definitely NOT a place to visit again. They need some palate lessons quickly! the staff however saved the day and a big thank you to the two girls who need commendation.
