I just move to this suburb and we visited this shopping centre 2 days ago. Eventhough it is small but it has lots of shop which is very good plus with the covered car park. Really enjoyed this visit. Love it! The downside was I'm extremely unsatisfied with Asian Express in the food court. I ordered seafood curry laksa which cost me $13 and the portion is extremely small with a small bowl. The portion is not enough for my child. Not a recommended place to eat. I saw on the TV screen on top of the food court, Asian Express voted for the best retail. ARE YOU SERIOUS ???
I give credit for Altona Gate Shopping Centre to be still standing. This centre is so out of date and worn down. Walking in doesnt feel pleasant as it looks so old. Another point for having all the standard shops required for every day living but the layout is poorly designed. I was in here not to long ago quickly grabbing some milk as on the way home. Uusually i drive pass Altona Gate and would make it to my nearest supermarket but for soe reson that day i thought i'll quickly pop in. Havent been in a very long time so i was sort of lost to find Woolies. Amazingly the carpark was full, with a lot of older age people doing their shopping during the day. I think a bit of renovation to add a more modern look should give it a better vibe when entering.
What a great centre, I like the mix of shops they have in this place from large department stores like kmart, best & less to the major supermarkets Coles, Aldi and of course the smaller businesses in the surrounding premises. It is a little outdated, as the toilets could do with a facelift and the interior of the centre. Nevertheless, it has the sufficient stores that is required without having the need to travel to a major shopping complex. Parking never seems to be an issue here which is great, and I find it offers probably more parents with pram parking lots than even the major complex which is a huge win for me. The only issue I have with is the trolleys are not coin operated, hence you find the supermarket trolleys everywhere and at times blocking up the parking lots or having the need to move them because of someone simply been lazy to park it in the right bay.
I hate shopping at Altona Gate Shopping Centre! Not because of the shops or the shops staff etc. Because the Air/con is buggered and they refuse to fix it. Especially in the Coles area. Doing the weekly shopping ends up being soaked in sweat. All staff you mention it to have horrible stories to tell about the A/C. In summer its never on and in winter its usually too hot and you end up drenched anyway.
Hi Artrayu,
Thank you for making us aware of this. Can you please respond via http://www.altonagateshopping.com.au/Centre-Info/Contact-Info/ with more detail i.e. are you referring to inside Coles or the common mall area? A specific time of day you shop? etc. and we will look into the matter.
Kind regards.
