When we went for our free trial lesson, our 20 mo hated it and screamed the roof down while in the water and was absolutely panicked. They had a swimming instructor, who started telling our child off, loudly talking over the screaming saying sternly, "Don't cry! Breathe! Breathe! Don't cry!" As anyone who has experience with babies and toddlers would know, instructor stern manner and telling him off just made our 20 mo scream and panic even more! I also felt like telling off for talking to our child like that, but didn't because it would have only made our child more upset. I tried politely turning away from instructor in the very small pool area, but kept following us around making things worse! They should only have instructors who know how to deal with babies and toddlers. The facilities are also very cramped. You can be in a 4x4m swimming area with 5 parents and 5 babies, then you have to queue up for a shower and queue for a change table at the ...read more
Watch out for the fine print in this business' swimming lesson contract - even though their swimming teacher had told me they were available for a make-up lesson, they demanded I produce a medical certifcate first, even though it was Sunday morning and the lesson was due to start in 2 hours, citing their "policy" and "terms and conditions". When I told them it was impossible for me to get a medical certificate so quickly, but could follow up with it the week after, they still refused, and even though they could hear my toddler screaming for his swimming lesson over the phone! I would never deal with them again.
I strongly recommend the Aquatic Achievers Swimming Schools. At our previous school, we didn't really see any improvement in our little boy's swimming skills, despite going for a year. Here, there are different levels (classes) and each level has specific goals so you can see that your child is actually getting something out of the lessons and is working towards swimming independently. They are a bit far out but, having been to a few swimming schools, I think anywhere else (where there aren't specific communicated goals of the lessons) is a waste of time and money.
My daughter has been going to Aquatic Achievers for the past two months, since she was four months old. It's amazing to see the change in just two months.
Her teacher, Joan, is just amazing and very patient & ensures all the mums/dads are doing the techniques correctly.
Our daughter is now stronger in the neck, back & is even starting to kick in the water - plus she also likes the social interaction with the other babies in her class.
