Do you enjoy cheese? Do you like the way it instantly improves every meal it's added to; or how delicious it tastes on its own? How it turns a salad into a gourmet dinner; how it necessitates wine and conversation? Do you appreciate the many elaborate varieties of cheese, and do you generally prefer to be in a room with a lot of cheese over other, non-cheese-containing rooms? Yes? Then you'll love the Tasmanian Mecca of Cheese, Ashgrove Cheesery. Located on the Bass Highway somewhere between Devonport and Launceston, Ashgrove Cheesery is an inviting sight - ample car-parking, pleasant landscaping, and life-size cow sculptures painted with trippy, hilarious, beautiful and interesting designs. Whether you're a cheese connoisseur or a family of 4 looking for a fun food shop, this is for you.
MASSES of cheese, all available for FREE tasting, and all available for sale in all sorts of sizes from $1 packs up. And it is really very tasty cheese, including some unusual varieties like the spicy wild wasabi (my personal favourite).
A really interesting video in a comfy seating area on how cheese is made, plus live demonstrations/viewing rooms.
Small but v tasty cafe with the most delish milkshakes made from fresh milk.
And then there's the colorful cows: have to be seen to be understood!
Don't miss it on your next holiday to Tassie.
