Saw great reviews so on our last night thought we'd check it out. We thought it was huge but as it turns out, there are two little restaurants there. Definitely a tight fit with many tables and always packed, so we made sure we got there at opening! We were a little unsure when we realised that it wasn't table service; it was very small and some of our cups and cutlery were dirty.... but we sure weren't disappointed. Curry puffs were delightful and were so different to what we've had before. Satay sticks were yummy too and we loved how they come in a bed of mini salad. Salt and pepper calamari was good but lacked a little oomf. For mains we had the Nasi goreng and hands down, was the best we've had. We then had crispy beef which was incredible and then had a chicken lemongrass curry which was the best curry we've ever had. No shortage on the lemongrass but it wasn't overpowering, so full of flavour. Had early bird special on drinks too. Extremely generous ...read more
Great food! We had the Sang Choi Bou, Bikini Bowl with Crispy Snapper and Crispy Chili Beef (both stir-fry's).
They don't serve alcohol but there's a bottlo over the road. It's a first-in best dressed, choose your own table style place which suits it's really relaxed and chilled vibe. Quite reasonable prices too. We'd probably go a back a few times before the end of our visit!
We were there early-ish for dinner on a Wednesday night but they were more than accommodating of our pram which was great.
Come for the food, but be prepared to be removed straight after! 6 of us dining and ordered entrees plus mains. This, is some of the BEST Thai-style food you will get. Unbelievable tastes at a super-reasonable price.
Absolutely zero complaints on the food front.
Unfortunately they don't like you having the full restaurant experience, and we were asked 3 times in five minutes to vacate our table for patrons waiting in line, despite still enjoying our post-meal glass of red. Byron is all about being laid back and enjoying life.... I guess they never got that memo.
Take it as a noodle bar, or come in a quiet period, and you can't go wrong.
Hi Brad
Emma here from Asia Joe's. Just read your review on this site. Thanks for the great words about the food but sorry you felt so rushed to leave.
Not sure what happened that night but the general policy is that customers should be able to finish their bottle of wine before being asked if we can have the table (and only if we have people waiting for tables). I make no apology that we are a 'quick turnaround' place (that's how we can sell food at such competitive prices) but it sounds like you were put under too much pressure so I apologise. I am guessing we were really busy but that is no excuse for bad manners!
I hope you come back and see us again.
Thanks again
Emma
First dinner in Byron bay. In general, the service and food are not too bad. However, you got to be ready for wait for the dishes. We waited for 1 hour almost. Althouth the menu is full of "Thai" food, the tastes are not authentic "Thai" at all. It is worth a try, but do not expect any Asia taste.
