Atami Japanese Restaurant

My experience in going to this restaurant 2-3 times has consistently been that the service is poor and the food is below average. They say it is table service - but whether they've been busy or we've been one of only two tables in the restaurant, I've had to go up to the counter to get their attention ("can we please order?" for example). When I went there last it was a cold evening and it was freezing inside. My partner and I did not take off our winter coasts. They did not have any heating on. Very disappointing. I shall have to find another Japanese restaurant, even if it means further travel. I just couldn't go back here again.

After driving past Atami for months, my wife and I finally decided to give this place a shot for take-away dinner. We ordered the sukiyaki, teriyaki chicken and an entree sushi dish. Unfortunately, all three dishes were disappointing.

Let me set the scene...we have a 5 month old. My wife LOVES sushi/sashimi & after having to avoid eating it during her pregnancy she has craved some good quality Japanese fare. We've tried a number of time & we were either denied, due to a lack of space at the restaurants, or we ventured out only to be disappointed by what they delivered. Well, Atami delivered, and delivered well! They are very baby friendly, the service was gracious, sweet & efficient...what more could you want? Then the food...yummy, fresh, abundant & relatively cheap. We had 3 entrees & a good sized sushi/sashimi platter with drinks & BYO, all for under $70! Again, this little Japanese establishment satisfied all my criteria & then some. I wouldn't hesitate to go again, & I highly recommend others giving this place a go!
