Au Lac Royal Vegetarian Cuisine

Au Lac was a great surprise to us. We wondered if there was a reason it was open during the holiday season and we found it to be because of their delicious food, well-deserving of the high praise it gets in reviews and ratings. For anyone visiting Canberra, vegan or not, I highly recommend giving Au Lac a try.

Growing up my mum had always been a vegetarian and I just can't hack eating it after I moved out. That all changed when I first visited Au Lac a few years back while I was up in Canberra. Firstly, the name Au Lac is a Vietnamese play on words for the mythical origin story of how Vietnam was founded by 'Au Co and Lac Long Quan'. Anyhow, the restaurant is situated in Dickson a.k.a Asian food suburb. Oddly, eventhough the restaurant is 'vegetarian' Au Lac chose to give all their dishes their traditional meat/fish equivalent names. Recommend: The Ca Kho To - Soy Fish In Clay Pot and also the Au Lac sweet and sour hot pot

I was very impressed with the service, price and food in this restaurant. Not being a vegetarian I was a bit hesitant but the food looked and tasted like the real thing - we had squid, chicken and beef and it was all delicious. Definitely one to try (we're going back again next week).

The best restaurant in Canberra!! Super quick service, friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Try the wonton soup, home-made lemon iced tea and vietnamese cannelloni! Absolutely delicious!!
