We went to Australia Zoo for our second sons first birthday and we took Nana from New Zealand with us it was a lovely day, We were a little disapointed they have no elephants (our bad for not checking that they have been gone for a while now but will be getting one back this year) The tiger's area was getting upgraded and only 2 cubs were on display. The Cheetahs are not on display and if you miss them walking around then you don't get to see them.
Lemars on Bindi's Island were no where to be seen I believe they like to hide so if you want to see them I would head there early as we heard thim making noise earlier in the day we waiting until lunch time to got there.
I think they could have a little more information about whats happening like the times the animals are roving/walked around the zoo in the brochure so you know. overall a pleasant day but we thought it was very expensive for what we got due to missing so many of the animals.

If you're traveling by car, bus, truck, motorcycle or even bicycle, there is no way of not knowing who the iconic founder of Australia Zoo is. The road that leads you to the car park is named after him. Just off Steve Irwin Way in Beerwah, you'll find this wonderful zoo about a 30 min drive from Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast or 2 hours from Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. The last time I was here would have been almost 10 years ago and if my memory serves me well, it was a fantastic day spent. There's plenty to see here. I guess the notable changes are the safari shuttle and the Africa section that was getting built back in 2007? I felt a little deceived by the shuttle as I thought it was similar to Werribee Zoo's safari tour. The shuttle is Australia zoo's own transport that takes you around to certain stops of the zoo to assist you with walking the long distances. The crocodile show still remains entertaining and is the highlight. I noticed more kid friendly areas but ...read more

I've only ever been once to Australia Zoo, and as my first experience I absolutely love. Unlike normal zoos where animals and reptiles are just in their cages and do nothing, Australia zoo always has a show happening which involves a professional trainer and the reptile or animal. As we all know, Steve Irwin's main expertise was reptiles and crocodiles. Never have i seen a crocodile show before and this was exciting as it gets you really hyped up and anxious and scared all at the same time. Not knowing if the crocodile is about to snap and is the professional trainer safe or not, keeps you off your seat wanting to see more. At the time i went they were building Africa & Asia region. So i'm looking forward to coming back to see the animals in those countries. This time i will be taking my son and i'm sure Australia Zoo will keep him busy and very interested as not only is it just a zoo but also educational for both children and adults.

We spent the afternoon at the zoo which was ample time to have a good overview without lingering too long at each exhibit. The absolute highlight was being able to pat koalas!!! You can also laze about with kangaroos. There are lots of huge natural enclosures which is so positive for a zoo!!
