Australian Hotel

I have been here plenty of times but today they dropped the ball the "manager" became argumentative and plain rude when we had to point out they had forgotten our meal and the other couple with us had finished theirs I did end up getting a refund but no apology no attempt to correct just attitude not good enough - change "manager" or change attitude.

The $10 steak and the two dollar pots were fantastic steak tender pots cold .

The food was apocalyptically poor. I ordered calamari, which came with chips and salad. The chips tasted like defrosted potato starch. The salad had rotten lettuce/onion. The calamari was technically edible, but was over-salted and on the poor side of passably cooked. It had the virtue of being $10, but so does McDonald's.

The tartar sauce was delicious.

We had a terrible experience visiting the Australian, we felt like we had been discriminated against. The group I was with were very dressed up and thought we'd drop in for one drink. Only to find the bar staff tell us we didn't belong there and we belonged on Flinders St: as a local to the area and someone who has taken other groups of friends there, I was embarrassed by the remarks the bar mans groupie friends gave me, who were hanging around the bar being served. He decided to serve everyone else but us as he thought we were to dressed up and it was a family restaurant. Not the first time I've had very bad service from this current and poor management. Absolute shame !

I had a Roast Pumpkin Salad here for dinner tonight. It was huge - with lots of spinach leaves, generous servings of pumpkin and feta with good dressing and plenty of pine nuts. You wouldn't leave here hungry!! The bruschetta was as expected, possibly a little overdone with the dressing, but that's only my own personal preference. The pub itself is informal, spacious and a feel-good local amongst this street of eateries. #reviewtowin
