HIGHLY RECOMMEND. . Had wedding and cocktail reception at gardens in April 2012. Absolutely stunning and unique. The venue provided the seating, beautiful flower urn decorations, music through pa system, tables and skirtings and the exclusive use of the whole garden for hours. They were very flexible in allowing us to hire caterers, musicians and bar staff as they didnt do catering and provided recommendations on local businesses and celebrants which were very useful. We still have comments about how lovely the venue was and friends wishing they had their wedding there first. The only thing that we had to be mindful of was that they close at dusk, which is a shame as we would have stayed all night. Check out their virtual tour website.
Just attended a wedding here and would NOT reccommend another couple to have a wedding here. The catering staff were getting snappy at guests if they didnt bring back their dirty cups for refills. The glasses for the water/juice etc were plastic and they also asked for them back to be refilled. If you didn't bring the glass back they would make you feel awkward. They set up the beers in eskys propped open with twigs on the ground. The reception was cocktail style however the food tasted/looked cheap and reheated. The salmon tasted off. Only ate two salmon canapes and didn't have the stomach to eat anything else. The ceremony was lovely, I would recommend having your ceremony here and moving your party to a different reception venue
I got married at the Avalon Gardens in April 2012 as the venue was beautiful and our friends and family still comment on how stunning it was. We too had a cocktail style reception, however, it was completely up to us to organise the catering of food and drinks and not the actual owners of the venue. So I would say that your 1 star rating and dislike of the catering should be aimed at the actual catering business that the bride and groom hired for their day. It is a shame that the catering was the focus on such a day. The owners of the gardens only provide the venue and seating and decorations and welcome guests, they did everything they could to make our day run smoothly and look stunning. Im sure the bride and groom will have beautiful photos as the venue provided so many locations within the one location. My only dissappointment with the gardens is it closes at dusk so we couldnt stay longer. Maybe you should find out who catered and review them to stop them ...read more
