The Avenue is a great chain, and the staff are professional and helpful. Big plus is the offer of transfers from other stores! I was hunting for a book that wasn't in the store and they trasnfered it for me - had it in my hands within hours!! complaint is the lay-out - The Elsternwick store can feel a bit cramped.
Great bookshop! So glad they have the Elsternwick store as closer to home and it's just like their other two - the staff are consistently helpful. I give books as presents and have to pick one a year for my turn with the book club. The staff have great ideas when you give them a brief. They are nice book nerds with smiles and lots of knowledge!
This is a great bookshop and if you want to support not just local businesses but local writers, please buy your books, or most of your books, in local shops and not Book Depository. I'm a big reader, and a writer, so it's important that we support out local publishing industry. As for Avenue, they are a great staff, always helpful and friendly and polite. Their frequent buyer scheme is the best, most generous I've seen and I buy a lot of books. It won't seem like much to non-readers or small readers, but to people who love to read, it's very generous.
I am almost exclusively buying my books from the Elsternwick store. They also run book discussion groups, which are wonderfully facilitated by their knowledgeable lovely booksellers.
This is how much I lovethis bookshop: I have created an account on this platform just to be able to comment. And I've written it out twice because the first one I lost cause I wasn't signed up.
Terrible, Terrible Bookshop. Staff were rude, their frequent buyer club is a joke, the only way you can find out how many points you have before you get a $25 gift voucher posted out to you is by asking them in the shop, no sign into website. You have to spend $250 to get the $25 voucher, the books are expensive. I will never shop in the elsternwick store ever again, I will gladly spend my money at book depository instead.
Balancing comments here: many bookshops don't have frequent buyer programs - this one is very good as it gives a 10% credit. Try a smile ghost dude, wait your turn, and ask some questions - you may make a friend! ;-)
