Bankstown Bushwalking Club In
We are a bushwalking club that is also involved in canyoning, abseiling, caving, cycling and a variety of other activities.About doing our walks....
Our club walks in many locations. Most of our day and weekend walking is within 2 hours drive from Sydney. Your walk leader will be able to tell you how long the drive will be when you ring up to register your interest in the walk.
Please note that most walks are in fairly remote areas where there may not be any toilet facilities or mobile phone access. Following a walk we often stop at a coffee shop or pub for refreshments before heading home, but it is unlikely that there will be anywhere you will be able to stock up on food or other supplies before then. Therefore you will need to take enough food and water for a full day of activity on each walk.
Walking tracks often have uneven surfaces and you may need to cross creeks or do some climbing or scrambling. You will need to wear lace-up shoes with good tread on the soles.
You will find that each walk has a grade. You will find details of the walk grades here. If you haven't bushwalked before we recommend that you start with an easy walk, in our club grading system, Grade 1 or 2. If you have bushwalked before then a Grade 3 walk may be suitable. If you want to do an abseil trip, canyon or cave you will need to attend an abseil practice day first so that we can check your skills out. You will find the date of the next practice day on the current program.
All new walkers to the Club and beginners are required to contact the leader of an activity 48 hours before the start of the activity. They need to be satisfied that you are sufficiently fit and able to complete the activity as intended, and have the right to exclude you from any ...read more
