Bar Lourinha
In the spirit of Melbourne’s laneway bars, Bar Lourinha in Little Collins Street is trendy and relaxed with great décor and an intimate mood. However it sets itself apart with its great array of tapas and wines from Spain and Italy.
Not too formal, not too casual, loud enough so your best lines aren’t overheard, quiet enough for you to pick up any weird traits in your date, and not too expensive, not too cheap – Bar Lourinhã cuts it for the perfect first-date venue. Inspired by the bars of Spain and Portugal, an extensive tapas menu offers perfect little morsels to complement some great wine. A cosy nook filled with tapas-inspired food and wine. Come early to secure a window seat in this tiny place and hear locals debate which tapas bar is the best. The food is Mediterranean-inspired with lots of tasty dishes, best shared among friends with a glass of wine. There's a great wine list with some exotic offerings.
Great Latin America inspired place with cosy decor! The mushroom and chickpeas were so tasty. Credit goes to the chef as it's not easy to create such simple food with with amazing touch. Yellow tail kingfish pancetta & lemon oil is also highly recommended. Place is a bit pricey but really good, and it's not as busy as the other places near by.
Near perfection! Great atmosphere, great food, small but perfectly formed wine list... I personally rate this well ahead of Movida. The only real downside is that you can't book, and there isn't much of an area to wait (I have been stuck in the hallway to the toilets for close to an hour waiting for a spot).
If there are just a 2-3 people, you will likely end up at the long bar or sharing a large table with others - this has always been fine but won't appeal to those seeking an intimate dining experience.
Look out for their monthly long dinners in the chapel upstairs.
