What can I say ? Pilliga Pottery ... or Barkala as the property was named hundreds of years ago by the true locals , is one of those places where one can forget the hustle and bustle of daily life. A sort of time capsule , a bit un-Australian yet very Australian. I do not really know how to describe it. One relaxes automatically. I spent some time in the Old School House , what a magnificent piece of art, a timber building like no other. Then breakfast in the great bush cafe and after a long walk through the open fields and hills, looking at birds , old trees and just being there in the great Australian bush . Then returned to the friendly folks of Pilliga Pottery , a fabulous good cappuccino with scones was prepared before I knew. Later in the evening they made us some real Pizza in a real wood fired oven. Yummie. When I left it was like leaving good friends, no worries mates ... I'll be back many many times. It is really worth the drive from Sydney , do it !!

If you love the Australian Bush , you will love this place. Not a glossy plastic covered motel style place for dress circle types. But a honest farm stay where live is good. I was there every year since 1997 , mostly around Christmas, just the most lovely surroundings. They offer horse riding and sharing a good farm meal. The accommodation is genuine , a lovely sort of European influenced olde world style, all natural building materials in use to build the most fantastic looking buildings. The entire atmosphere of Barkala , Pilliga Pottery is so honest one seems to forget time here. The food is fabulous every time I came here they had something new and exciting. Even during the heavy rain and floods last Christmas they managed to please their guests. Everything was kept clean and cozy no matter haw bad the weather this christmas was. Highly recommended... and when the weather is Ok , as it was all the years before since I came here , my oh my , what a ...read more
Mate you're 100% right , this place rocks !! As humble the people are , do not be mistaken , they treat you like a king. Indeed not a glossy plastic place , you may have to adjust a little to the simple way of living, but gosh what a great get-a-way. What is the urpose of flying to Balie and returning more tired as when you left just because of the hassle of the journey when you can stay i one of Australia's finest Bush Bed and Breakfast places not all that far from Sydney? And actually .. nothing simple about the Coffee or food , just awesome good down to earth quality , served with a great European style. You are so right Mr. Jaap , this place is heaven on Earth.
