I've been here a couple of times, one of them for brunch with my bookclub. It's okay but certainly not one of the best places I've visited. On a summer's day this place gets really crowded, and for some reason the inside is empty (though that changes around lunch time). They also have an icecream shop attached to the side, and a bar out the front, so there is quite a bit of variety here. In fact it is quite a large place, though they do have waiter service so you generally can't go to the bar and order a drink they bring it to you. I do believe they split the bills (or at least they did when I came here for brunch), which is always a good thing for groups. However, there are much better places in St Kilda, so I do not envisage myself coming here all to often. Also, the main outdoor area is a non-smoking area which is also a good thing.
Fantastically located right next to the beach with nice views, if you're here on a good day, good lucky getting a table outside. But if you do, it's well worth as you're seated right next to the footpath. Apart from the view, the food here wasn't that great and the pricing isn't fair either. It's your standard Australian menu and the food is mediocre. The pizza taste like pizza from the frozen section of the supermarket as well as the chips too. I wouldn't go back, unless maybe just for a drink.
Beachcomber has a great location and the food is decent. Service can be hit and miss though, especially in summer when staff numbers are boosted by short-term hires. It's lucky it's a nice place to sit and enjoy some great views because I've sometimes been left waiting quite a long time for your order to be taken or meal to arrive.
