Ben The Butcher has improved its produce again in 2018. Some delicious new products there now, namely the prosciutto wrapped chicken stuffed with diced capscium and the marinated lamb shoulder. YUM! Consistently good produce. A pleasure to shop there. Thanks Ben & staff. Keep up the good work.
Well, I was disappointed with the pasties. Sold as Cornish pasties, but Cornish pasties have that unique flavor from adding parsnips. Swedes just don't cut it. Wouldn't recommend for anyone seeking a true Cornish pastie flavor. Sorry guys, you could improve on this one in my opinion.
Hi, we were disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy our Cornish Pasties due to the lack of parsnip. Parsnip isn't actually part of the traditional recipe as you can see from this basic internet search: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasty, http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7776/cornish-pasties. Our pasties are one of our most popular items. It's unfortunate that you didn't like them, but to say they are not a 'true' pastie is incorrect.
Grass fed produce, shop is clean, organised and well presented; staff show skill & knowledge of the produce, helpful with types of meats suitable for types of cooking; staff take care to supply the customer's produce needs. Family meals/pies are not salty; homestyle burgers and sausages are full of flavor and not overly salty; meats are excellent quality; their Shepherd's pie is a winner. Thanks Ben the Butcher and staff for providing Balwyn with a good quality butchery.
Always helpful and happy to bring out what I want ( I seem to be there just as they close and have packed up half their stock). Always give helpful advice and fantastic product knowledge. This review is also a huge THANK YOU to the gentleman who threw in free samples of 2 Cornish Pasties today! Beautiful meal!
