Every year we take our little cavalier for her annual groom before Christmas. We have visited Best Friends consistently for the last 4 years. This year we decided to have a mobile groomer visit and groom our beloved pet. We were devestated to be informed from the groomer that our pet had a toenail digging into her, and had been in possible pain for years. We are not dog experts, and expect a trained, competent 'groomer' to have picked up on such a thing. This nail obviously did not grow overnight, and had been like this for a considerable amount of time, and not detectable easily under her fur. We are very disappointed by the service of BestFriends for lacking to mention this issue, and are appalled that they allowed this to happen to our pet.
A VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER
You should know to check your dogs DEW claws regularly, as in every 2 weeks, not annually or whenever they go to a groomer. This nail sits above the foot and does not touch the ground therefore it doesn't get worn down like the rest. Dew claws can grow, curl and become curled into the skin with in a couple of months or less, ESPCIALLY in Cavaliers. If you only groom your dog literally annually and didn't check her dew claws once during this period, then of course they are going to grow into her pads. It's your responsibility as the owner! Every dog has dew claws! Get real.
