This is more of a hang-out bar than a restaurant, although some of the food is quite good. It is way too noisy to enjoy dinner with a friend/friends and on busy nights service can be a tad slow. Some of the new menu items are delicious (try the mushrooms!) The decor really needs a facelift and can be cavernous and depressing.
returned here for dinner with our kids after not dining here for sometime and still was good as ever. staff friendly including with young children and happily let us split the bill at end when paying separately with other family we were with. had the "Souk Souk" balls again (cous cous balls crumbed in sesame seeds with carrot and beetroot and walnut salad with yoghurt dresing) -still delicous and sizeable $21, also tried falafel meal $20 which was good too. our friends tried the beef fajitas $23 that came sizzling to the table and their kids had the fish and chips $20 which were both good. very easy with kids upstairs as can look out windows at acland street activities. 2 main meals was enough to feed our family (2 adults and 2 small children).
After hearing a lot of good things both here and through word of mouth I must say this place for me is tremendously overhyped (that or I was very unlucky). We went here for drinks and dinner last Thursday, what ensued was nothing but average. The service was extremely slow, albeit was busy, it still took about 10 minutes before anyone even offered us drinks. The staff serving us were at best disinterested, at worst, cold. They definitely did not want to be there.
This place is definitely more of a bar than it is a destination for dinner, the music while quite good, was way too loud upstairs, so much so that we found ourselves yelling in order to hold a conversation. This place may be good for drinks, but I definitely wouldn't be back for dinner or the service.
Great place for coffee on a saturday/sunday morning after a big night out, or even a nice place to go for lunch, dinner or drinks.
Friendly and helpful staff are always around to serve you, the only downside is trying to get a table. It's packed on a sunday morning, which is highly irritating.
Big Mouth continues to be the consistently great place to go. Been away for awhile and came back for a party, great food and service and awesome party vibe. Came back the next morning for a recovery breakfast , coffee was good and breakfast hit the spot, corn cakes and baked beans. Thanks Big mouth for always being there.
