Billy Goat Hill Brasserie
Between the valley and the hill hides a sleepy town, Mt Evelyn. The only town that has the Warburton Trail running right through the middle. Recently this town has awakened as the place to be.
The main street, Wray Crescent, with its old charming buildings could almost be described as bustling. There right in the middle on the corner of Station St, stands Billy Goat Hill Brasserie. A new style of eating with an old style of comfort. From the outside you could be forgiven in thinking Billy Goat Hill is another cafe, but as you look closer you will notice the detail of the bush scene decal on the windows with the goats.
All might not be as it seems. Billy Goat Hill was designed with food, life and enjoyment of the finer things in mind.
Named after a historic region of Mt Evelyn with an interesting past, Billy Goat Hill gives you the old world feel with elegant modern style.
The seasonal changing menu is inspired by the local growers and farmers. The menu is designed from farm to plate, allowing the chefs to guarantee quality, satisfaction and originality that could only be described as inspiring.
Our support for local quality doesn't stop at the paddock. Billy Goat Hill offers locally brewed beer from Hargreaves Hill brewery plus wines from Whispering Hill, Bulong Estate, Sir Paz and Tokar. Not to mention our professionally barristered coffee using Yarra fair trade organic coffee.
To accompany our seasonal menu we also sell gourmet ingredients, table cheese, ripe additions jams and even fresh bay leaves.
Being a Brassereie gives the customer freedom to enjoy a delicious breakfast including our house made potato roesti, a full three course lunch or dinner, a morning chai latte or an after work beer or wine.
Once you have tried our in house made cakes or morning baked muffins you will understand what people say about old style home cooking. ...read more

A delightful place either just for a night out or a special occasion. Small and intimate devoid of those menus and whine list that take an hour to read. The menu is influenced by seasonal produce locally sourced as is the wine list with both more than adequate for the discerning dinner. The service was great and the cost reasonable. We had a party of four and selected the grazing platters, Pork cutlets (2) and Fettuccini Squid (2)- all commented on how good their respective dishes were.. The talking point was the baby squid tentacles on the grazing plate - absolutely outstanding and unique. One tip - make sure you book in advance - I heard a number of diners trying to get a table on Saturday night turned away
When I first discovered this fabulous little cafe in the main street of Mt Evelyn, I'd just dropped in for a coffee. And oh! What a coffee! I honestly believe it was one of the best coffees I had ever had in my life. In fact, the second time I went back, the coffee was still as good. And the third... And the fourth! In fact the coffee is SO good, I have several coffee cards:)
And then I discovered the muffins...
The sweet or savoury treat from heaven. It became an obsession to visit with Rueben and his friendly staff to see what extraordinary delight they had made for that day. My mouth would salivate and my stomach rumble with anticipation.
Recently, I discovered the pancakes there are nothing short of heavenly...
And then there is the 'real' food :)
