Have been here several times and only twice have I left feeling really impressed with dinner and the whole dining experience. It is the type of place your parents take you and pay. Will go back but as the other reviewer states " it is not in the same league as The Bistro".
Bistro Tartine is by reputation one of Newcastle's best restaurants. It charges prices accordingly. nearly $40 for a main meal. Food is good (but nothing special). The design of the restaurant also makes it very noisy. Service is very erratic. By way of example we ordered some breads to kick us off. After 30 mins and twice prompting the waitress - still no bread. Alas it lobbed up, and was quickly taken away about 5 mins after the mains arrived. The waitress apologised and told us that the chefs regard the bread as the lowest priority... hence the delay.
All in all - I think it is grossly over-rated, and definitley over-priced. Certainly not in the same league as 'The Bistro' Restaurant, and several other Newcastle Restaurants. I suggest giving it a miss.
