Bloodwood
Restaurant and BarLocated on the increasingly trendy southern end of Newtown's King Street, the emphasis is on food for sharing.
The interior has an industrial influence to go with Newtown's semi-industrial past, but still sleek, nonetheless.
The menu is interesting and inviting along with a decent wine and cocktail selection.

The CVs of the three chefs Jo Ward, Claire van Vuuren and Mitch Grady have something to do with Bloodwood’s busy tables. Buzz is all about the polenta chips with the crunch of fries and the subtle nutty flavour brought out by Gorgonzola dipping sauce – they are deserving of much praise. Get ready for full-on flavour as soon as you unwrap baked kingfish from its nifty paper bundle. ...read more

Sitting with a cocktail on the sun-drenched back balcony, I wonder why it’s taken me a year to return to Bloodwood. The cocktail list contains some gems (my smoky breakfast juice notwithstanding); the beer list is enormous by most restaurant standards; and the wine list produces gems like the 2015 Ravensworth 'The Grainery' ($67). The latter is an utterly approachable, field blend of marsanne, roussanne, viognier and chardonnay from the Murrumbateman area. Served on plantain chips, Curry Leaf King Prawns ($27) is a yellow king prawn and scallop curry, that is presented dry rather than saucy, and feels loosely Sri Lankan in style. By contrast BBQ Pork Ribs ($26) feel a little heavy handed; the meat is ...read more
Went here for a group dinner farewell recently. If you are a meat eater then this place is like meat in heaven. The food and drink list was incredibly long and varied.
We had the banquet, which was really quality unlike the banquet options you can often get. We were seated under the hustle of the restaurant in a cool little area (which was only let down by being Close to the bathrooms).
Our waitress was lovely.
We took our overseas guest to Bloodwood to rest our feet and feast. I was happy to see that they were able to seat us at short notice on a Saturday night. It was quite early to be doing dinner for most... but in saying that the place was quite booming and already half full. Don't be fooled from the entrance, there's a lot of seating upstairs and downstairs towards the back of the ...read more
Favourite bar and restaurant in Newtown. A happy, funky vibe run by young staff who care about providing classy service. I love sitting at the front on a sunny day with a coffee or glass of wine watching the eclectic Newtown world go by, or chatting with friends over a delicious dinner.
Banquet was great, best meal I've had in a while with perfectly cooked food that is unique, modern and unpretentious.
$55 per person including over 5 dishes and dessert. They have an extensive list of 'fancy' beers and wine too.
Only take bookings for groups of 8 or more and it get super busy!
