Bogong Alpine Village
Bogong Village is an untouched jewel nestling in the foothills of Victoria's highest mountain, Mt Bogong. It is located at 1000 metres above sea level, between Mt Beauty and Falls Creek in the High Country. Situated on the picturesque Lake Guy, the village was established in 1940 with magnificent gardens surrounded on all sides by Australian forest rich in native birdlife. The European trees of the village gardens are stunning in spring, summer and most particularly in autumn when set against the Australian bush backdrop. In winter the village is a welcome base for those seeking the downhill excitement of snow capped mountains and the breathtaking beauty of cross-country trekking at the nearby Falls Creek resort. It's a perfect setting for a host of scenic and recreational pursuits. The two, three and four bedroom houses are similar on the outside but different on the inside as they are individually owned. Each house is comfortable in its own way, with linen, doonas, electric blankets, heating and drying facilities a standard in all room. A number offer much more with TVs, videos, CD players, microwaves, books and magazines. Houses are classified as Standard, Intermediate and Superior. Drive up the mountain and in 15 minutes you are on the Bogong High Plains which in spring, summer and autumn, are a major attraction for walkers who want to stroll across the top of the world and take in amazing views. Drive down the mountain and you arrive at Mt Beauty and the Kiewa Valley. Take a trip a little further away and you can enter another world and go back in time to the "gold rush" and visit the historic towns of Yackandandah and Beechworth. The Milawa gourmet district with its wine and fine food is also nearby. There is so much to ...read more
