Tutoring begins with a thorough assessment. The results are used to design a program tailored to the student's needs. Students learn specific skills, and learn to think for themselves and rely on themselves. They are challenged and supported in an atmosphere of acceptance, warmth and encouragement. They are helped to achieve mastery of written language.
Jane Herrald, as founder and leading tutor, holds a Bachelor of Education, Diploma of Early Childhood Education, and Graduate Diploma of Special Education. She has studied academic writing and the teaching of literacy. Her methods, which have proven effective over many years, are based on appreciation of the vital role of reading comprehension. This involves integrating an in-depth understanding of language with the building blocks of language.
Jane has written a series of three books for children aged 7 - 14. They present, in fable form, an explanation of the workings of the phonics system. They are designed primarily to be read for pleasure, but are interactive and instructive at the same time. They have proved to be a great asset for use with children for whom literacy does not come easily. They are available on request.
There is no charge for the initial consultation.
A four week trial period is offered, during which students and their parents may assess whether the type of tutoring is right for them. Tuition is an hour a week, with work provided for students to take home. The cost is $55 per hour. Results are guaranteed.
