When I discovered this place when perusing the internet I thought it was going to be just your ordinary Indian restaurant, however the name should have given it away that it is actually something a little different it is a cross between a British Pub and an Indian restaurant, meaning that you get order both British Pub Grub (such as fish and chips) alongside traditional Indian fare. Actually, with the Indian menu instead your typical ten different types of curries you can get them at the dozens of Indian takeaways scattered around the city. Rather they offer dishes that aren't as common, such a goat curry. Actually, as soon as I discovered that goat curry was on the menu I pushed open the door and told the waiter exactly what I wanted I didn't even need to look at the menu. This is not your typical Indian restaurant, and if you want something out of the ordinary then definitely check this place out.
From the moment we entered the door we were greeted with friendly service and that contiued through the night. We were never left waiting for staff to attend to us and they were always on hand to fill a water glass, take an order or get another drink. The food was great and there were a few different indian tastes to try so that's what we did and were very happy with what we received. My wife ordered the crispy pork belly and I had the pineapple prawns for entree. Both were excellent and had us wishing we could have chosen them for a main.. (perhaps you can?) The mains were just as good with goat and chicken chosen to try something different. We shared each others and along with freshly baked Naan bread and some steamed rice we both ended the meal with a few things left on the plate and full as a boot.
Great service, great food and reasonable price. Also used the Entertainment book for 2 for 1 mains, so saved some money too.
Highly Recomend.
Love the decor, love the food. I love eating in their Thali room, the meals are about $22 but you get rice, raita, three curries and chicken tikka. The staff are friendly, and the food never takes long. The Thali room is particular is good for groups. I'd definitely book ahead, it gets packed.
British India is beautifully decked out, from the upside-down Royal Doulton teacup lights to the plush lounges covered in saris. The mish-mash of British and Indian foods is unique. Although each time I've been, I've yet to see anyone order 'bangers + mash' or 'shepherd's pie'. Their Indian curries are tasty, but sometimes lack the kick of chilli I love.
