Builders Arms Hotel
The red banquettes, intricate black and while wallpaper and splashes of yellow lend themselves to the subtle retro theme seen throughout the Builders Arms Hotel’s restaurant. Surprisingly stylish, this restaurant serves a delicious blend of Middle Eastern and Moroccan influenced dishes, accompanied by much choice from the fully stocked bar.
Located in Fitzroy, i was down here for some late shopping and decided to pop in here with 2 friends to have dinner. We didn't have reservation but we were easily seated because it was not busy or because we were early. We ordered a massive pork, bowl of chips & a salad to share. The pork looked really good as the skin was what i waiting to get to. After taking the first bite, i was slightly disappointed because it did not really have the crackling affect. The rest of the pork was good, juicy and soft. It started to get busy as people enter for their dinner around just after 6:30pm. Some people straight to the bar which made it very loud. Between the 3 of us we happily finished our meal. Not the best but not the worst. Average. If i do come back ill be trying other stuff in the menu as i couldn't say the pork was a favourite.
The first time I came here was on a Thursday afternoon when I was exploring Smith St and noticed that it was full of people in suits and ties. I suspected that they were having some lunch and spending the rest of the day drinking (namely because there is no office buildings in the area). I liked the beer garden out the back, but didn't really think much of the rest of the pub. When I returned recently I noticed that the place was still pretty much full of suits and ties, which really isn't my scene, so I finished my beer and left (though I still liked the beer garden).
