Burwood Library

The library itself is not bad. The interior is modern and clean. The range of books isn't big but sufficient. The study space is limited, but comfortable.
However, the worst problem is the noise level. The library has a children play area, with shrieking babies and toddlers running around. The parents don't control their children and the librarians don't care. There is no noise regulation, people speak as loud as they please. I don't feel like it's a library environment at all. It's more like a community centre.

Just had the chance to visit this after its renovation and have to say they've done a great job of making this a comfortable space with a modern neat spacious design. The weakness as I see it, however, is that there's so much space that it doesn't actually feel like there's all that many books!
Added to this, putting the youth books on a whole separate floor to the younger kids' books is a bit odd as it splits families up.
However it's certainly a nice place and if the book collection grows it'll be even better.

It will be good when this old building is replaced - but in the meantime, they do have a big range even though it's cramped in to the small space there.
Kids section could be a bit more generous, but the adult fiction section is great, as is their DVD collection.

The council is supposed to be rebuilding this and it's about time. Compared to the Strathfield library at Homebush this is in really bad condition, it's small and cramped and doesn't have a good selection of books.
