My husband and I have live near glenferrie road and wanted to try a nice local place for my birthday. we had been passed Cafe lagom a few times and never went in but decided we would try it on this special occassion. When we walked in the door instead of being greeted we were suprised when we were snubbed in the resturant. When my husband appraoched the staff and gave our name for the reservation they escorted us to a table in what was a very quiet resturant. being seated close to other patrons we requested a seat somewhere a little more exclusive as it was a wednesday night and the resturant did not seem busy at all. we simply wanted a romant evening. We were shocked when they said no. The staff came over and while i was clearly unhappy they said nothing. i order a glass of wine and my entree which i belive was the scallops. They were absolutely tasteless and were perhaps the most pricey of the entrees. ...read more
We went to this restaurant on 2/1/2012 with the family. Now usually Im not this harsh but this was the worst dining experience ever and hopefully for their sake they were having a bad day.We were not greeted at the door (and there was only 4 tables being occupied). The staff could not tell us what the specials were and had to check with the kitchen staff at least 3 times. Everything we ordered was apparently not avail. 3 out of the approx 6 entrees were not available and 2 out of the aprox 5 mains were not available (No other alternative options were suggested or provided) The staff were rude and service was a disgrace. Would never eat at this restaurant again! Worst experience ever. Many better restaurants avail- do yourself a favour and pop into Grilled - better service and better experience!
ate lunch here once recently. staff were very friendly and the place is modern and appealing (bar area and tables and outside seating on street). substantial menu. we tried a few breakfast type meals, a dahl, and a soup. they were nice but nothing special. the more substantial meals at nearby tables such as the fish of the day "rockling served on salad of beetroot and goats cheese was presented beautifully and looked more special, prices $1-2 dollars more than average places. we also tried the blueberry pancakes and fruit salad which were also OK .
The good: Definitely worth a second glance; Cafe Lagom's staff are family and pet friendly, their menu well-constructed and the decor/ambience is contemporary and pleasant. Griffith coffee is served by a competent barista; they serve freshly squeezed juices and do breakfast into the afternoon, which comes out plentiful and tasty. Prices reasonable.
The bad: Service was sluggish despite being sufficiently staffed to handle the Sunday morning rush, the coffee was good but not exceptional, (but also slow), and the food was a touch on the lukewarm side by the time it reached the table.
Summary: Cafe Lagom is a friendly local cafe; good for a lazy lunch or late breakfast, but perhaps give it a miss if a 'power lunch' is on the cards.
A wonderful cafe to visit. Excellent food and coffee.
Each time i have visited early morning the staff and manager are always there to greet one with a smile and take your order from your table. The customer service and coffee are second to none.
Decore clean and spacious.
Plenty of complimentary reading material on offer as well.
