Cafe Racer
Cafe Racer is a cafe with a difference. Attracting a copious amount of bikers (for obvious reasons), guests are confronted with a swarm of motorcycles parked outside this little gem. Once inside, the typical crowd is cool and trendy, and the cosy interior is welcoming and enticing. Relaxed, modern and stylish, Cafe Racer is a cut above most other cafes in its area. Don't ask for a menu when ordering, however, as there isn't one! You'll have to talk to the waiters to see what's in the kitchen for today.

Went there this morning and was surprised by the lack of customers in there. I actually booked for breaky and was told to be "on time"because they were so busy. Empty seats were plentiful. Service was slow, meal was average, same with coffee, juice freshly squeezed. I was there with a friend and stayed for about an hour and a half and there was no signs of a crowd at all. Lacked atmosphere.
Go here before 8.00am and you'll be greeted with a throng of lycra clad cyclists. A little later it's a place for the locals to get their caffeine hit.
They have an all day breakfast menu with the usual offerings - porridge, pancakes, eggs etc. I usually drop by in the morning to pick up a bacon and egg roll and coffee on my way to the office. On the weekends I'm a big fan of the racer eggs (melted ham, cheese & tomato on toast with poached eggs) - a great hang over cure and will keep you going all day. They also do lunches - baguettes, salads etc.
The coffee is good. The staff friendly and attentive. Prices are equivalent to most good St Kilda cafes.
Coffee - $3.50
Toast (3 slices) - $6.50
They also do half serve if three slices exceeds your daily carbo intake.
Directly across the road from St Kilda beach, the location couldn't be better.
I used to love to go to Cafe Racer after a nice Saturday morning ride. I would be dreaming about fruit toast and coffee for the last 10km.
I had not been there for a while and today I went and was very disappointed.
I had fruit toast, coffee and fresh juice. When the fruit toast arrived it was a single small over cooked slice. They used to serve 2 large thick slices. The coffee and juice were nice.
I thought OK perhaps I need to ask for 2 slices now they are under new management. Anyway I went to pay...
Juice $6.50
Toast $6.00
Coffee $4.00
Everything was too expensive. That is outrageous, $6.00 for 1 piece of toast. When I got there I was surprised most tables were empty. Normally in the past they were all full. I will not be going back. There are too many choices for a good coffee in StKilda to be paying that premium.
