Cafe Salsa
Order a campari, perhaps nibble at a plate of the superb fried calamari, and contemplate a menu of good, honest Italian cooking. The choices haven't changed in years but almost everything is well-executed - pay attention when the specials are recited for a bit more variety. The pizzas are some of the best in town, the bases a perfect weight and texture, crisped on the bottom, the toppings applied by a restrained hand. The fungi with mushroom and gorgonzola is a favourite. Pasta with either cockles, mussels or the full marinara is also recommended, as are the meatballs and roasted spatchcock.

Ok, let me start by saying I have always gone back to Salsa continuously over the years because i love the atmosphere and location even though i had some pretty average experiences with how long it took in the past. These last 3 times ive been since the new management/chef has taken over have really made me fall in love again with the place! Decor looks fresher but still has the cool-vintage vibe, food was REALLY good. Friendly staff.. not a bad thing to say. Salsa is back and better than ever!..thankgod!
Cafe Salsa, the name, the palm leaf canopy and the retro 70s decor are quirky enough to turn people away on appearance only, in fact if it did not come recommended to me i would have driven straight past, but the food and the cocktails here are seriously good and for a leisurely Sunday lunch i would have to say this is one of my favourites.
It might not have a great outlook, but its close enough to West Beach that after a filling osso bucco, or delightful ricotta ravioli you can stroll down and dip your toes in the ocean!
It has a particularly relaxed atmosphere about it which makes it so easy to sit for hours and really enjoy the delightful food while having a freshly made cocktail.
In my opinion its definitely must visit summer venue, sit outside and enjoy the sun, ocean breeze and rustic Italian cuisine.
I visited with trepidation after reading the various reviews of Cafe Salsa around the place and the general view that the service left a bit to be desired. However, I'm pleased to report that the service was fine on our visit - particularly since we were one of a number of large groups dining there that night. We were looked after, orders were taken appropriately and we had enough time between courses to chat. The food was great - rustic italian - the homemade gnocchi was the best. Great suburban restaurant with a retro feel. Dine in front of the fire in winter and underneath the palm fronds in summer.
Gorgeous al fresco cafe with plenty of spunk. You can't go past sitting outside under the palm leaf canopy at Cafe Slasa eating their delicious Italian-style food and sipping on a glass of wine during the summer months. The staff are friendly and there's always plenty of atmosphere. Highly recommend, but you'll need to book a table on weekends.
