Cafe Segovia
Nestled in the back of the Block Arcade this popular city hang-out does great weekend breakfasts and is known for its artistic feel. Joint-owned by the same people responsible for The European and the Supper Club on Spring Street the ambience at Café Segovia is always pleasant with Spanish music making the soundtrack to your experience. Best known for its superb focaccias this inner city hideaway will tempt you with a range of noodle and pasta dishes. Outdoor seating is also available.
This is a really pleasant cafe. Hidden away down Block Place off Little Collins Street, it's not packed and busy, just pleasantly humming. It's perfect for a business meeting first thing in the morning. Breakfast offerings are varied, with good coffee and good service. The booths are comfortable and whilst it plays background music, it's not too loud for a productive discussion.
This is another one of those cafes hidden away in Melbourne's many laneways. It does open quite early so you can sneak in here before the crowds rush in for a decent spot of breakfast. The food isn't bad, and I certainly can't complain about their bacon and eggs, and the prices aren't all that bad either (though it certainly isn't one of those budget places were you can get a really cheap breakfast snack). What is cool is a lot of these alleyways are all becoming smoke free, which means that you can sit outside without being bombarded by smoke. However, I wasn't too impressed with the way that they do their tea, since it is simply tea leaves dumped into a pot of hot water without any strainer. For me that it a big thing because I simply don't like my tea all that strong. This is probably why I don't come here all that much. Still, it is a nice place for a spot of breakfast.
