Cafe Sopra

I went here for brunch on a Saturday morning having wandered round the shop next door and below. The breakfast menu was a bit limited and the selection for lunch and dinner looked much more exciting.

Cafe Sopra seem to have lifted their game. The past two times I've been here, the service has been top notch. It is easy to feel overwhelmed by their huge chalkboard menu especially if you aren't familiar with Italian food.

You MUST try the crispy polenta with mushroom and gorgonzola sauce. It's a bit much for one person to finish on their own, so take a few people along for company.

Other favourites are:
- conchiglia (seashell pasta) with anchovy, broccollini, chilli and red capsicum
- the meatballs
- zucchini flowers stuffed with five cheeses

Arrive before 11am if you don't want to wait to get a table, but if you come too early, risk missing out on dishes like the zucchini flowers and meatballs which are only ready between 11am and lunchtime.

Ha I definitely thought I was in the wrong place the first time I went here. The thought of dining among people shopping for groceries kind of worried me, but the 45-minute wait for a table suggested that I was probably alone in my hesitation. Offering yummy and ridiculously fresh Italian dishes, Sopra is a great spot for a casual meal or date night.

While the wait is annoying (and the staff arent the friendliest upon reception), like most decent eateries around Sydney, the food makes it worth it. Plus, you can have a glass of wine (albeit with difficulty), at the small designated area towards to back of the room. The blackboard menu may be hard to decipher, but the wait staff will be happy to help you out, and really, you cant go wrong with any of the pasta dishes. The tomato and bocconcini salad is my personal entre favourite, and if the spaghetti and meatballs are on offer, you really dont need to look any further on the menu.

Don't think you are in the wrong location when you drive into this busy warehouse. Though you may be parked next to a forklift you ARE itn he right place. Located above the famous Italian grocer Fratelli Fresh- Cafe Sopra offers a great variety of Italian food from Chicken and Celery Paninis to fresh pastas and also quail risotto.
The waiters are very busy so they can sometimes be a bit rude and it is usually difficult to get a table though my most recent trip didn't seem to be the case.
It's a bit difficult to read the menu (a handwritten menu on a n oversized chalkboard)- But I've never had a dish i didn't like.
Overall a good experience and the food makes up for almost every vice.

Came here with some friends on a Saturday morning. A friend got there early (8:45am) and got us a table for 8, but it didn't seem that busy until lunchtime. We had food to share (because sharing is caring), but I didn't do any ordering so I can't say exactly what was ordered. The food was really good except for the crispy bacon which was more hard than it was crispy, but the coffee is definitely a winner. Half a star off because of the staff, who had a bit of attitude.
