This is one of those places that the person who runs the book club I being to selected for our monthly catch up (and as I've suggested I'm pretty impressed that she always seems to chose something different). As it turned out the day we can here they happened to have a buffet for $20.00 which actually wasn't a bad deal, especially since the $20.00 included a free drink (and a decent sized one at that). Mind you it wasn't a standard buffet but rather a much more Italian (or should I say Lygon St cafe) selection which included pizzas, anti-pasto, salads, as well as a decent amount of fruit. Mind you, I'm always a bit funny when it comes to buffets because sometimes I wonder what type of people they base their all you can eat price on, though I'm pretty certain that it's not somebody with my appetite. The place was okay, but certainly not a place that I would visit too often, especially since there are quite a few other places in Lygon Street to visit.
I really love this little cafe. They do all day breakfast which agrees with me and their prices are affordable, especially for Lygon st. The quality is always consistent and is the main reason I keep coming back. Their lunch/dinner menu is also good, with their traditional woodfire pizza's. Yum! Really good place.
Speaking from the limited perspective of one who has only sampled their sticky date pudding and coffee, I was very impressed with Cafe Trevi. While the prices are in full accordance with the trendy area, the servings are decent and the taste is beautiful. Best of all are the staff, who rapidly and cheerfully supplied plenty of water for us, with minimum prompting. In fact, service overall was incredibly swift, especially for dinnertime on a Friday night. I recommend Cafe Trevi for excellent cake and coffee, and will possibly be back to try their savoury fare.
