Cambrai Hostel
Cambrai Hostel is a family run business that provides affordable accommodation for international travellers and local visitors alike. Hosted by the very hospitable Marg & Ron Rawlins, it is located in the small township of Maffra, about 15 minutes drive from Sale. Originally known for its production of sugar beet, Maffra is now the heart of the surrounding dairy and crop farming industries. Cambrai Hostel is an historic building, located centrally on Maffra's picturesque, tree-lined main street. It is easily recognisable by its large front garden, where visitors are often found relaxing with a coffee or sipping on one of the local wines along with the renowned Maffra cheeses. Cambrai accommodates a range of travellers, but is has been particularly popular with backpackers who are looking for seasonal work at the local farms. The peak vegetable picking seasons are between October and April, although many travellers have found local work at any time of the year. Backpackers seeking a homely and very relaxing environment will find Cambrai a welcome relief from the busy tourist trails. Visitors appreciate the cosy atmosphere of the lounge area, with its old brick fireplace and bar. If you are lucky, Marg & Ron will often run a menu for guests and local alike. For those interested in travelling the local region, Cambrai is a convenient base or stepping stone. To the north is the spectacular Alpine Ranges where you can head off for a day or a week.
