The Castle Hotel is located in Bothwell, a classified historic town one hour's drive north of Hobart, gateway to Tasmania's Central Highlands and Great Lake District. The Castle Hotel is a large Georgian style property, continuously licensed since 1829, making it one of the oldest licensed hotels in Australia. That's well before Melbourne was founded.

The accommodation at the Castle has been refurbished. The rooms have been tastefully decorated with older style furniture blended with modern facilities including DVD player, television and bar fridge. Guests have access to a veranda where they can relax and take in views across the town's park. The private bathrooms blend luxury with utility; soft thick bathrobes provided for guests.

Besides standard pub fare, the menu includes specials such as Moroccan Lamb Tagine and own Smoked Trout Nicoise salad. The cosy dining room is open from Monday to Sunday for lunch, evenings on Friday and Saturday. Mid-week Wednesday is Pizza Night. Inhouse guests are catered for at all times.

You will find the atmosphere in the hotel friendly and typical country hospitality. This is evidenced in the bar, with locals sharing conversation and anecdotes across the bar with visitors. As a country hotel does, we have very likable colourful characters with their quirks, and can tell many a good story.

The Castle Hotel Bothwell is also a great place to base yourself on a visit to Tassie. Beside the attractions of Bothwell including the Australian Golf Museum and Australia's oldest golf course it is only a short drive/ride to many of Tasmania's attractions. Hobart is 1 hour, East Coast 1.5 hours and West Coast 2.5 hours, depending how often you stop to take photographs.
