A great little store that doesn't stock too much, but they did mention that if I needed something specific, they'll have no trouble ordering it. It's more a specialised store here where most of the products are for serious riders that know what they want. The customer service is fantastic, they're not only friendly but have a good knowledge of what they're selling. I find the pricing here reasonably cheaper than other cycle stores in the city.
Awful service, had to wait 30 mins to get served. Put aside the wrong size shoe, didn't have the right colour, finally got it sorted, then when I got home I figured out I had a problem and had to return to the store, they blamed me, as they thought I had installed it incorrectly. Still yet to contact me about resolution or how much the 'repairs will cost me', even though they promised today. I'm without shoes and and without my money.
Good for price and great service, up until you give them the credit card details. It was all downhill from there. Ordered for shipping, promised tracking number via sms following day, which never occurred, delivery was late, gave me bogas updates on the delivery tracking, namely saying the delivery went to the wrong state, when I got a sorry we missed you card on the same day. Opened the box up, left shifter was NOT working. Called the store, the manager says the shifter have been tested before shipment, thus it can't be broken. Well it is broken, not only due to shipping, but there is no reaction upon pressing the lever, its under shimano warrenty which my LBS went and got for me instead. Will not shop from them again. I will be forwarding all costs for this warrenty labour costs to Cecil Walker, if they hold my tax invoice for ransom i will be taking them to the fair trading department.
I am a regular road cyclist, and by no means elite. I have been to many bike shops in and around Melbourne (refer to my reviews!) and Cecil Walker is by far the best I have experienced. The location makes it difficult (unless you live or work in the city!!), however the service makes it worthwhile.
The staff are friendly and very helpful. I had a problem with my rear hub, and I was told that I needed new bearings, which they could arrange for $100 or I could pickup for about $4 in West Melbourne, drop off to the store and they would install for a small charge. So I saved myself $70 and went for a drive!
I have never had a problem with my bike after getting it serviced at Cecil Walker, and get a yearly service done every summer. They have a great range of products and are very knowledgeable and helpful.
