This hostel was clean but horribly run (and by clean I mean clean for a busy working hostel).
I waited 3 weeks for work and worked a day on a pineapple farm, which lasted one day. I then got another job two days later sorting watermelons which was full time.
I've left now to continue my farm work away from Bundaberg.
I'm still waiting for visa day forms and pay slips from both farms. The hostel claimed they would sort that out for me the day I got there.
I paid £135 a week. For someone on a tight budget, it was pretty steep. As working hostels go, it's mediocre, not the best and not the worst. If money isn't too important for you, it could be an ok choice.
I know these places provide Jobs but I had a great experience at Bundaberg Backpackers Retreat four of us shared a two bedroom cottage outside of Town saved a ton of money it was an-authentic Ausie life style clean comfy everything you need and very reasonable you just have to secure your own jobs but that not really that hard. I would never go for one of these big over crowded hostels the only upside is you meet lots of people
I didn't listen to the bad reviews and went to get my days done, meet some people and maybe save a little money. Wrong! This hostel is overpriced, the pool is freezing. The cctv is completely pointless, no one watches it. The large lockers underneath are a complete ballache to get out and don't lock!
They can't even afford a receptionist. Management is rude. At first I thought they were ok when we avoided them. You check-in, get put on the standby list then get woken up at 7am to go to work. The kitchen is always a mess with three hot plates for everyone. Rent for a 6 bed is 180 a week - the room was never cleaned. You could get the same for less of a price. The only good thing is the beds are big. You do get to meet people, but you can at any hostel - and you'd be able to bring your own drink - strict rules on not bringing own booze in. Northside is a bit of a hole but has loads of work. Do your research. So happy to get out!! Good luck!
Do not stay here! Not a very nice place to stay, the rooms are dirty and dont get cleaned properly and the staff are unfriendly especially the management.
From the rent to having to pay to get your bedsheets changed, theres deposits for everything and you will have to pay transport fees if working, you wont save any money if you stay here.
Worst hostel you could possible stay in!!! But you if are gonna stay in this place here is some advice:
Dont expect much, go with low expectations as the rooms rarely get cleaned by staff, you have to pay to change your own bed clothes if you get caught washing your own you will be thrown out!! The Kitchens are not well cleaned, your food will also get stolen the rent is overpriced...This place is designed to take every ...read more
