Visited for drinks whilst visiting Port Douglas on a day trip. It is a great venue for tourists with plenty of outdoor-under-cover seating looking out over the Main Street. It also seemed popular with locals. Decor is relaxed but considered and the verandah bar is in particular plesant.
The Central Hotel is an icon of Port Douglas, and is located midway on the Macrossan St shopping area. Since the devastating cyclone in 1911, the hotel has been completely refurbished, remodelled, and extended, for size this hotel would compare with Sydney or Melbourne. Outside on the footpath are high tables and chairs, with easy access to a number of alternative drinking and dining area's. The very modern additions include three different "verandah" dining area's on different levels, serviced by the "Verandah Bar". At ground level there is a huge area under canvas, with plenty of tropical greenery and two large TV screens featuring football of differing genres and movies.. Seating includes large tables with form seats and comfortable lounges with armchairs.
