Chans Martial Arts
Shao Chi Chuan is a complete, stress-free, self-defense system that is both effective and easy to learn, yet avoids undue injury through excessive or inappropriate training.Shao Chi Chuan has been developed through the application of modern biomechanical principles, coupled with the ancient and ultra-sophisticated art of Tai Chi. This unique system of self-defense was founded and developed in Christchurch, New Zealand by Grandmaster Chan in 1975. It has since grown into an international entity, with schools throughout New Zealand, as well as in Australia, the UK and USA.
Tai Chi is a martial art known for its calm movements and reliance on accuracy and softness, rather than strength and brute force, to overcome opponents. The result is a highly effective and precise martial art that equips students with a comprehensive set of techniques and tactics for self-defense, whilst simultaneously encouraging relaxed and efficient movement.
Tai Chi stretches the muscles, frees up the joints, relaxes and correctly aligns the body, has natural breathing, and promotes circulation, leading to some of the amazing health benefits. With the correct intent, timing and feeling; the movements are totally natural and in proportion for the body.
The Sydney branch has a strong instructor base with decades of experience between them. Currently the class ratio of 2:1 of instructors to student allows for careful mentoring and is a rarity in modern martial arts schools.

Chans is part of an international school with HQ based in NZ.
I've been a student of their school before. The syllabus is great and well thought through, the instructors are knowleadgeable and patient, the group I was training with ended up becoming a go-to for the occasional social gathering and even some travels!
Only reason I quit (after 4+ yrs!) was due to a relocation in a different city, which unfortunately doesn't have a branch yet.
Will definitely pop by and say hello, and keep up the great stuff I've learnt there - it really shapes your mind for the better in terms of awareness, self defence skills as well as behaviour.
I have been training in the Art of Shao Chi Chuan for many years and have been training at the Sydney School for about 10years and I love it. The instructors and senior student a very helpful and welcoming. It is a very practical art and what you learned you can put into practice straight away.
