Char Restaurant @ Admiralty

Great dining experience, with a great wine list. Highly recommended to dine in the open air however you'll probably want to in Darwin's Dry season.

The Char restaurant claims to be the best in Darwin, situated in the old Admiralty House it is an outdoor or "Al Fresco" restaurant, located near the Lameroo Beach foreshore of Darwin (Also known as the Esplanade) - midges and sandflies can be a problem but the robust insect burners kept same away. The food was good as was the service, we both enjoyed thick rare eye fillet steaks, although mine was the Fillet Mignon style. Vegetables were well prepared and wine and corkage reasonable. There is also an inside bar which is well stocked and the conveniences were clean and quite modern. Staff were polite, well dressed and efficient and appeared to be knowledgeable about both the food and the beverages they were called on to serve. The Char Restaurant comes as well recommended and the prices were reasonable.
