Legendary fish shop! There isn't enough stars available to add to my review for me to rate Charis the way I would like too. They really are amazing when it comes to the freshest and tastiest fish and chips available on the coast. Whenever I am near by I have to stop in. You can smell Charis from blocks away and that freshly cooked seafood is the best smell in the world. I suggest everyone try Charis and after your first bite, heck even your first smell you will be back again and again
Charis also offers a full range of seafood, VERY fresh seafood so apart from the cooked fish and chips, if you like to buy raw fresh seafood Charis is a great place for that too!
Charis has been around for a long time. It became our local when we relocated from interstate 2 years ago. Everybody said, oh no don't go to Charis as it is too expensive, but I have not been able to find better fish anywhere on the coast except if you go to the fishing boats and buy straight from the trawlers at 6am in the morning. Charis is first and foremost a seafood retailer. They have an exceptional array of fresh seafood available at any one time. They also have fresh daily catches that you can ask what has come in today and they will tell you. The prices are fairly reasonable. Let's face it, we are talking seafood here. It is expensive to begin with if you are wanting true Australian caught seafood. The next offering is their take-away section. Here, you can order anything you desire. I have been to Charis several times over a two year period. The takeaway fish is good, the chips are average, and anything else you order is decidedly below average. I also recently tried some salmon from the fresh fish section and was horrified to find that it smelt less than fresh and included a whole heap of stray bones. Worse quality than what you'd find at Coles. The setting and pelican feeding save this place from being just another Gold Coast fish and chip shop.
