I came here with high expectations that were easily met and then exceeded, to my great surprise. I always approach places like Chef's Gallery with not a small amount of trepidation as they tend to be aimed towards Caucasian diners (who, in general have less discriminating tastebuds than those of an Asian descent like myself)- that is, high prices for substandard food. But actually, the food here was very good.
Chef's Gallery seems to revolve more around a Northern Chinese bent with their dumplings and hand-made noodles, but with a few delicious surprises thrown in for the mix. Having been to the one in the city, I expected the same quality but I was greatly disappointed. The staff were rather hopeless as they couldn't manage the overflow of patrons waiting and the service was quite inefficient. Food was also mediocre with an inconsistency between dishes - some would be full of flavour whilst others lacked any flavour at all.
I came back after vowing never to return. It kinda wasn't really my choice, so I just went along with it. Some of the dishes were good and the service was better than last time, though the waiters and waitresses kept trying to take our plates away at the end even though we hadn't quite finished. We were seated inside, which might have been better staffed. I was tempted to get the piggy black sesame buns which I used to love from the Town Hall restaurant, but at $4.90 a bun, I thought it was a bit steep and decided to pass.
