Circle Cafe

Step off Darling Street and into Circle Cafe, which inhabits the grounds of the old heritage listed Uniting Church building. With its leafy outdoor seating at the front, this popular Balmain spot seeks to recreate the open, community atmosphere of a French provincial café.

The cuisine draws inspiration from the culinary creations of Southern France and the Mediterranean. Keep a check on the specials, which change daily. Meanwhile, the ambience is trendy and bright, with high ceilings, plenty of lighting, comfy seating arrangements and colourful tables.

Nice garden area, excellent BLT and coffee - not open Sundays or evenings.

This is the best cafe in Balmain! An unusual spot and layout with the front garden, but a perfect place to relax and have brunch on a warm sunny day. God value and great food. The big breakfast is one of the best around!

Charmingly rustic with a relaxed French vibe, Circle is enduringly popular despite stiff competition in a suburb saturated with cafes.

Diners can tuck into breakfast or lunch at wooden tables surrounded by trees in the front garden with birds chirruping in the background. If it's cold or raining, try and grab a table by the wood fire inside.

Among tried and tested favourites are the ricotta hotcakes with fresh fruit and maple syrup, cooked breakfasts on sourdough, soup, baguettes and salade nicoise.

The coffee is strong, smooth and hot. Add an extra shot for a good wake-up kick.

Prices are very reasonable and there's always a good supply of daily newspapers to accompany your coffee.

Only downside is that it's not open on Sundays, when it's converted into a church.
