We came here after walking nearly the length of King Street trying to find somewhere open to have breaktfast at about 9am on a Friday morning!
This was the first place we came across that also included a bathroom as my breakfast partner needed to go so we though we would eat here.
Our breakfasts were great, I ordered the ricotta and honey bagel. It was amazing. Not too much ricotta, perfect amount of honey. Tastebud explosion.
My coffee was right on the mark too, the soy milk wasn't burnt and it went down well.
My only issue is that we weren't given any water at all with the meal and we had to ask for the missing holandaise side that was ordered but never turned up.
I totally disagree with tena, a bit like the over the top review by ang86.
And I guess that's where the truth lies in Citrus Bar. The laid back atmosphere works very well for King Street Newtown. I like to consider myself a regular when I am in Newtown. The mains are of a very decent size, though I have returned a burger as it was under cooked! But, they gave me an entirely new burger and chips - which I had smothered in mayo, so knew it was new! You really can't do wrong in any of the mains, and won't leave hungry.
The Iced Coffee which is my standard Cafe drink is done well, and they don't use 10 ice cubes for filler which many other places do. Prices are extremely reasonable and I would recommend this place when in Newtown and don't feel like sitting in a smelly pub!
The quality of this place has plummeted in the past 12 months. I live nearby and I used to go there regularly. I went there yesterday with some friends, thinking I'd give it one last shot, and I can honestly say it was the worst food/service/ambience I've ever experienced in a restaurant in Sydney. I had scrambled eggs and bacon, and my two friends had pancakes and toast. The portion sizes were tiny, except for the toast. There was a mountain of lettuce (not salad, or any dressing- just dry old lettuce) on my plate where the rest of my eggs should have been. And the strawberries on my friend's pancakes were clearly about three days too old, and slimy, and the pancakes were gluggy and uncooked in the middle. I also got my food about 10 minutes before my friends. How long does it take to cook toast?! ...read more
